Audi is a brand that has always put a lot of emphasis on performance, and the history of the four rings in motorsports is one of the most impressive of any auto manufacturer ever. But this is Audi, so there is always the option to turn up the performance, and that comes in the form of the S5. And while these two models are certainly related, it’s important to know the differences, and this guide will educate you on all of them.

Although these two variants look similar on the outside, the biggest difference between these two is under the hood.. The A5 is quick, with a powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine that allows it to easily outrun similarly priced competitors. But there’s no denying that the S5 delivers a lot more. Both cars come with a performance-oriented 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This is technology that comes from the world of racing, and it delivers the quickest shifts possible. Both cars also come with quattro® all-wheel drive, another technology honed in the world of motorsports, giving you the kind of traction that excels just as well both on the track as it does on a snowy commute.

With the extra power in the S5, Audi recognized the need to upgrade the brakes as well for better stopping power. As a result, the S5 comes with 14.2-inch rotors in the front and 13.8-inch rotors in the back. For comparison, the A5 has 13.3-inch rotors in the front and 13-inch rotors in the rear. That’s still plenty of stopping power; the S5 just needs that bit extra. It’s a similar story with the suspension. The A5 comes with comfort-tuned suspension, but there is available lowered sport-tuned suspension. The S5 comes with sport-tuned adaptive damping suspension, for superior handling across a wide variety of conditions.

Audi A5 VS S5 - Design And Comfort

Audi A5 Interior

From the outside the silhouettes of these two vehicles look very similar, but there are a few visual cues that allow you to tell them apart. There are slightly different front fascias, the S5 comes with twin-tipped exhaust pipes, and there are different side mirror caps. The S5 comes with bigger 19-inch wheels, and although 19-inch wheels are available for the A5, they are a different design. Most of the paint colors are the same, but there are a few that are specific to one model or the other. Stepping inside, you’ll notice that most of the interior design is the same, but the S5 comes with sport seats, a sport steering wheel, and sport pedals. Both sedans however, both come with standard leather upholstery which is another of the many things that set Audi apart from the competition.
